Turmeric Root Extract

A polyphenol-rich golden botanical extract that provides potent antioxidant defense, joint comfort, and gut barrier support.

What it is

Turmeric Root Extract is obtained from the rhizomes of Curcuma longa L., a perennial herb of the ginger family. Standardized extracts contain 95% curcuminoids—a polyphenolic triad consisting of curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, and bisdemethoxycurcumin. Curcuminoids act as powerful master regulators of cellular oxidative stress and inflammatory signaling pathways (inhibiting NF-kB, COX-2, and 5-LOX), promoting joint flexibility, cardiovascular endothelial health, metabolic equilibrium, and gastrointestinal mucosal integrity.

Also known as: Curcuma longa, Curcumin, Curcuminoids

What it does

  • Promotes joint comfort, mobility, and healthy inflammatory responses.
  • Provides robust antioxidant protection against cellular free radical damage.
  • Supports intestinal mucosal barrier integrity and digestive comfort.

Amplified by probiotics

Native curcumin exhibits extremely low oral bioavailability due to poor water solubility and rapid hepatic glucuronidation. Live probiotic bacteria in the gut transform unabsorbed curcumin into highly active bioactive metabolites, including tetrahydrocurcumin and dihydrocurcumin, via bacterial reductases. Reciprocally, curcumin acts as a prebiotic, expanding beneficial Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium populations while suppressing opportunistic pathogens. Probiotic-derived short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) preserve tight junction integrity (ZO-1, occludin), reducing intestinal permeability and working synergistically with curcuminoids to reduce systemic inflammation and enhance metabolic health.

Typical dose

150–500 mg/day (standardized to 95% curcuminoids)

The evidence

Evidence: strong

Over 100 human clinical trials demonstrate that standardized curcuminoid extracts significantly reduce joint discomfort and inflammatory markers (CRP, TNF-alpha) in osteoarthritic and active populations (Daily et al. 2016, J Med Food; Sahebkar et al. 2014, Phytother Res). Clinical evidence also confirms efficacy in metabolic and digestive wellness.
