Boron

Trace mineral involved in steroid hormone metabolism, bone mineral maintenance, and joint tissue integrity.

What it is

Boron (utilizing bioavailable organic forms like boron citrate or boron glycinate) is an essential trace mineral involved in endocrine and musculoskeletal biology. In Velobiotics formulations like His-Biotics Testo Boost, elemental boron is delivered alongside zinc, vitamin D3, and microencapsulated probiotics to support physiological testosterone levels, joint health, and bone mineralization.

Also known as: Boron Citrate, Boron Glycinate

What it does

  • Modulates enzymatic hydroxylations involved in converting total testosterone to free bioactive testosterone.
  • Extends the half-life and serum concentration of 25-hydroxyvitamin D and 17beta-estradiol.
  • Reduces inflammatory cytokines including TNF-alpha, IL-6, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein.
  • Facilitates bone matrix mineralization by regulating renal excretion of calcium and magnesium.

Amplified by probiotics

Boron absorption in the small intestine is enhanced by an intact, uninflamed mucosal lining. Probiotic bacteria produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs like acetate and lactate) that reduce luminal pH, increasing the solubility and enterocyte permeability of borate ions. Furthermore, probiotics reduce localized mucosal inflammation, preserving apical transport proteins. Boron also exerts prebiotic-like properties that selectively encourage the growth of beneficial gut commensals, creating a mutually reinforcing gut-mineral axis.

Typical dose

3–10 mg/day

The evidence

Evidence: moderate

Human clinical studies indicate that daily supplementation with 3–10 mg boron increases free testosterone levels, decreases inflammatory markers, and reduces urinary excretion of calcium and magnesium. Safety & who should check first

Safe within standard supplemental limits. Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) is 20 mg/day for adults. Pregnant women should avoid supplemental doses above normal dietary intake.
