Soya Protein Isolate

A complete plant-based protein rich in essential amino acids that supports muscle tissue repair, satiety, and metabolic recovery.

What it is

Soya Protein Isolate is a highly refined plant protein processed from non-GMO soybeans (Glycine max), yielding a clean protein content of 90% or greater on a dry weight basis. Soya protein isolate is a complete plant protein, containing all nine essential amino acids in proportions that yield a Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS) of 1.0. It provides an ideal nitrogen and amino acid source in meal replacement and recovery shakes to build lean muscle, promote satiety, and support tissue repair.

Also known as: Soy Protein, Soy Protein Isolate, Soya Isolate

What it does

  • Delivers a complete amino acid spectrum (PDCAAS 1.0) for muscle protein repair.
  • Promotes satiety and appetite regulation in weight management and meal plans.
  • Supports healthy blood lipid levels and cardiovascular metabolic profile.

Amplified by probiotics

Intact plant proteins require thorough enzymatic cleavage into small peptides and free amino acids for transport across enterocytes. Live probiotic strains (Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species) express diverse extracellular proteases and peptidases that hydrolyze soya protein isolate efficiently, increasing amino acid liberation and intestinal absorption. Furthermore, active lactobacilli fermentation suppresses unabsorbed protein putrefaction in the colon (reducing toxic ammonia, p-cresol, and hydrogen sulfide formation). Probiotic SCFA production preserves gut barrier tight junctions, preventing macromolecular allergen passage and facilitating efficient, non-inflammatory amino acid uptake for systemic recovery.

Typical dose

15–30 g/serving (in meal replacement or diet shakes)

The evidence

Evidence: strong

The FDA approved health claim and extensive systematic reviews confirm that 25g/day soy protein as part of a low saturated fat diet significantly lowers total and LDL cholesterol (Jenkins et al. 2019, J Am Heart Assoc). Clinical trials establish equal efficacy to whey protein for muscle protein synthesis and post-exercise recovery when consumed at adequate doses (Lynch et al. 2018, Nutrients).
