Lactobacillus paracasei (Lacticaseibacillus paracasei) is a dominant lactic acid bacterium inhabitant of the human alimentary tract and fermented foods. Produced via industrial fermentation and gentle lyophilisation, L. paracasei is distinguished by its high acid and bile tolerance and immunomodulatory properties. Lactobacillus paracasei works in strong metabolic and immune synergy with other probiotic strains in the gut matrix. By fermenting plant carbohydrates into lactic acid, L. paracasei decreases intestinal pH, hindering pathogenic bacterial expansion and facilitating the growth of beneficial Bifidobacteria. L. paracasei releases specific teichoic acids and cell wall peptidoglycans that interact with Toll-like receptors on intestinal dendritic cells, shifting the immune cytokine balance from pro-inflammatory Th2 toward regulatory Treg activity.
